Just a reminder for those of you who are WELS called workers or laymembers, the Ad Hoc Commission preliminary report came out last week.
As you may or may not be aware, “the Ad Hoc Commission was established by the 2007 synod convention to analyze the synod’s potential and problems—and to make initial recommendations to the district conventions. Those conventions will now discuss their report and offer feedback. Feedback is also being taken from individuals—details are available in the report itself. The commission will present its final report to the 2009 synod convention.” [WELS Official E-Mail Correspondence - 12 May 2008]
I haven’t had a chance to read everything in the report, but you can easily scan through the Commission’s recommendations for yourself. I found many of the recommendations to be very intriguing – offering some unique possibilities for the future work of our synod. Be sure to take some time to read through it!
Most of the discussion will take place later this summer at the district conventions, but feel free to share your thoughts here on the report. At the same time, please keep in mind the Comment Policy of The Shepherd’s Study.
