I greatly enjoyed reading your posts regarding your family's military service during World War II. My great grand uncle, Charles Richard "Dick" Waits, was a tank gunner in Company C of the 753rd Tank Battalion. He was KIA on 4/6/1945 near Kressbach, Germany. It is important that we remember the ultimate scarifice these men and women have made to protect our freedoms. Thank you so much for sharing!

Pastor Samelson's rumor is true. I believe it will be a downloadable study, perhaps with PDF and RTF files. I'll try to remember to post again when it comes out, but it should be on a relatively fast track--for certain in time for Bible classes in fall 2010, but perhaps even before that.

Ditto! I second everything you wrote about this wonderful book!

By the way, I just found out that NPH does have a Bible study connected to the book in the works -- not sure how soon it'll be available, but I'm looking forward to it. I've wanted to share this with my congregation, but simply saying "Read this!" isn't as likely to get them into it as a formal study will.

If you want a good example of preaching about the Sacrament and preaching to the Sacrament in the same sermon, check out Prof. Em. Daniel Deutschlander's Maundy Thursday sermon, "Behold the Hidden Glory of the Cross: It Is Hidden in the Savior's Feast".

It can be found on pgs. 267-272 of his book "The Theology of the Cross: Reflections on His Cross and Ours". The link for the book at Northwestern Publishing House can be found below.

C.F.W. Walther also brings out well why we encourage frequent reception of the Holy Supper on pgs. 354-355 of <a href="http://www.cph.org/cphstore/product.asp?category=&part_no=151601&find_category=&find_description=&find_part_desc=walther" rel="nofollow"><strong>The Proper Distinction Between Law and Gospel</strong></a>. I've hyperlinked the title.

Thanks so much for your positive and Christian message including remembering those of your family who sacrificed so much for others.

Readers may also be interested in the writings home from the front of US Sgt. Sam Avery. Fascinating eyewitness history from the hot sands along the Rio Grande to the cold mud along the Meuse.

This blog is an adventure long in the making for me in honor of my own family hero. Letters are posted on the same day they were written from the trenches 91 years ago.

Today I found myself staring at my watch counting down the minutes to 1100 hrs. http://worldwar1letters.wordpress.com
